My name is Lauren Chan. I teach second grade at St. Maria Goretti School. This will be my third full year in second grade at St. Maria Goretti, but I have been in this classroom for the past five years. Since I have graduated from college, I have worked in all grades K-8 and have been a paraprofessional in a special education classroom and a reading interventionist.
I graduated with a BA in Elementary Education from Elmhurst College. I have a strong passion for always continuing my education, and I have recently finished an endorsement in ESL through National Louis University.
My teaching philosophy is to get to know my students well in order to best teach the whole child. Every student learns in different ways, and I try my best to meet the needs of each student in my class.
I am inspired by my parents. They have set the foundation of raising me based on religion and hard work. Both of my parents have gone above and beyond for our family, and I want to do the same in all aspects of my life.
Something exciting in second grade this year is our school unit is a circus theme, “Multiculturalism” Around the World. Our class will be learning a lot about the French culture. We will be doing group lessons, activities, and school projects around this theme!
On my own time, I like to CrossFit, bake, and read. This past summer, my husband and I got to go to Taiwan so that I could meet his family, we also went to Japan, spent a lot of time working on our new home, and spent a lot of time with our family.
